I served as a Member of the European Parliament between 2019 and 2024, and later as a Member of the Hungarian National Assembly, working to promote a free, equal, and democratic Hungary. Throughout my career, I have been committed to civil service, focusing on the rule of law, human rights, and anti-corruption efforts at both European and national levels. My work has included contributing to key legislation such as the rule of law conditionality mechanism and advocating for women’s rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and minority protection. With experience in both EU and domestic politics, I have built strong networks and worked across institutions to foster cooperation and democratic values. My mission remains to protect citizens’ rights, strengthen democracy, and ensure Hungary remains a transparent and reliable partner in the European community.
Cseh Katalin
Between 2019 and 2024, I had the distinct honour of serving as a Member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chair of the Renew Europe group. Between 2024 and 2026, I have continued my commitment to civil service as a Member of the Hungarian National Assembly, bringing the experience gained at the European level back to my homeland to fight for a free, equal and democratic Hungary.
Throughout my career, I have been motivated by the profound impact of the legislative process on people’s lives. In the European Parliament, I served in the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Human Rights as well as the Committees on Budgets, Budget Control, and Regional Development, where I participated in negotiating the historic rule of law conditionality mechanism. In the National Assembly, I applied this expertise to advocate for better protecting the rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community, and combating the systemic corruption that undermines the nation’s future.
My dual experience as an MEP and an MP allows me to bridge the gap between national and European policy. I leveraged a wide network of EU officials, civil society partners, and member state level stakeholders to foster inter-institutional relations and build coalitions across political aisles. I have a comprehensive understanding of both the EU’s institutional architecture and the domestic challenges of democratic backsliding, equipping me with the political acumen to navigate complex political landscapes and find common ground on critical issues.
Service to the citizens and the protection of their rights was always at the core of my mission. Through international media engagements and grassroots collaboration with NGOs, I work to ensure that the voices of the Hungarian people are heard where it matters most. Coming from a member state which experienced the decline in the rule of law, I remain dedicated to building a transparent, European Hungary that respects human dignity, promotes social equality, and remains a reliable partner within the Euro-Atlantic alliance.
Focus
The EU’s rule of law conditionality regulation was a key legislative achievement, providing a strong tool to protect the Union’s financial interests and values. I worked across political groups and institutions, and in the Hungarian National Assembly advocated for judicial independence and transparent public procurement.
I promoted an EU and national budget that supports local governments, public services, and democratic oversight, directing funds closer to citizens and prioritizing healthcare and education.
I have consistently advocated for women’s rights, including reproductive health, and pushed for reforms to address systemic failures in handling domestic violence, while supporting access to safe and legal abortion across Europe.
I have defended minority rights, standing against discriminatory legislation targeting the LGBTQ+ community and supporting Roma inclusion, focusing on equal access to education, healthcare, and employment.
In foreign affairs, I have worked to counter authoritarian influence and disinformation, supported Ukraine through humanitarian efforts, and maintained that a democratic Ukraine is essential for Hungary and Europe.
